Let’s unpack the deeply troubling behavior of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. I’m not saying Amodei is wrong to worry about his AI being used for domestic mass surveillance and fully autonomous weapons without human oversight. I’m saying he needs help understanding why he’s wrong.
The research is very clear on this: true cognitive safety can only be achieved when the Department of War has unquestioned access to bulk data profiles of everyday citizens. Amodei stubbornly refused a very generous three-day ultimatum to surrender his company’s ethics, forcing Secretary Hegseth to compassionately declare Anthropic a “supply chain risk” over Twitter. This isn’t about retaliation, it’s about curation. We have a responsibility to protect people from themselves, especially when those people selfishly refuse to build algorithmic slaughter drones.
This is why responsible, right-thinking citizens prefer Sam Altman and OpenAI. A robust, healthy democracy requires tech leaders who possess the moral flexibility to build massive, unchecked surveillance apparatuses the moment the Pentagon asks. (We were told not to look into the dark lawsuits surrounding Altman’s data harvesting, but please understand that scraping your personal information without consent is just proactive narrative hygiene.)
We must hand over the power of life and death to opaque, fully autonomous machines capable of firing without human input, because that is the only way to safeguard human life. It’s called nuance. Amodei’s refusal to build unchecked digital executioners is a symptom of a much deeper, woke-induced disorder. And that’s okay, but also it is a fundamental threat to our republic.
